Company Description
A.S & Company is a Karachi-based importer and nationwide distributor of fast-moving consumer goods, with exclusive national rights in Pakistan for Yuppies, a Malaysian shoe care brand established in 1989. The company manages nationwide primary and secondary distribution across modern trade, general trade, wholesale, and institutional channels. Its operations run on a fully deployed ERP system that covers sales, purchase, imports, inventory, finance, and payroll, ensuring accurate, data-driven reporting for brand principals.
A.S & Company offers end-to-end route-to-market services, including import handling, documentation, warehousing, logistics, shelf management, and brand marketing, with reporting on each step. The company operates in major cities including Karachi and Lahore, giving team members exposure to a broad national distribution network.
This role owns the day-to-day accounting, financials and the month-end numbers. The person keeps the books clean and up to date in the ERP, handles all tax and legal filings on time, gets the import and distributor costs recorded correctly, runs payroll, and turns the raw data into clear reports the Director can act on. In short: everything finance and accounts, done accurately and on time, with no surprises.
This is a senior, hands-on position and the person will have an assistant to delegate tasks to.
A. Oversee bookkeeping and record-keeping
B. Import and landed-cost accounting
- Record each import shipment fully
- Keep import documents in order (LC / bank contract, Goods Declaration, Bill of Lading, packing list) and reconcile them
- Track advance income tax and sales tax paid at the import stage so they can be claimed or adjusted later.
C. Receivables, payables, cash and bank
- Track money owed to the company (receivables) by customer, chase overdue amounts, and give the Director a weekly aging list.
- Track money the company owes (payables) to suppliers, service providers and the government, and schedule payments.
- Handle bank paperwork: LC and import contracts, remittances abroad, and any undertakings or letters the bank asks for.
D. Payroll and staff-related cmpliance
- Prepare monthly payroll: salaries, overtime, deductions, and final settlements fo leavers.
E. Tax and statutory compliance(Pakistan)
- Income tax return: prepare the business profit & loss and balance sheet, and file the annual income tax return through FBR's IRIS portal by 30 September each year (the tax year run July–June).
- Proprietor's wealth statement: prepare and reconcile the owner's wealth statement that must be filed wih the return.
- Sales tax: file the monthly sales tax return (STR) with FBR by the 18th of each month, charge sales tax correctly, keep the input/output tax records, and claim input tax where allowed.
- Withholding tax: deduct withholding tax where the law requires (on supplier payments, salaries, rent, services, etc.), deposit it on time, and file the withholding statements.
- Advance tax: calculate and pay quarterly advance income tax so there is no shortfall or penalty at year-end.
- Provincial tax: handle Sindh Revenue Board (SRB) sales tax on services where it applies (for example, on services the company provides).
- Customs / import filings: coordinate with the clearing agent on WeBOC / Pakistan Single Window matters and make sure duties and import taxes are recorded and claimed correctly.
- Stay current: track each year's Finance Act and tell the Director about any change that afects the business.
- Records: keep all tax, invoice and financial records for at least 5 years as the law requires, ready for any FBR or provincial audit
F. Financial repoting for the business
- Monthly management accounts: profit & loss, balance sheet and cash position for A.S & Company, ready within an agreed number of days after month-end.
- Gross margin and net margin tracking, with the true cost of selling (schemes, claims, distribution margin) shown clearly.
- Sales analysis by product, channel, region and customer; stock and slow-moving-inventory reports; receivables and payables aging.
- The profit & loss and balance sheet that support the proprietor's FBR income tax return.
- Budgets and cash-flow forecasts: help the Director build the yearly budget and a rolling cash-flow forecast, then report actual-versus-budget each month.
G. ERP and data
- Be the main in-house owner of the finance side of ERP: keep it set up correctly, keep the chart of accounts tidy
- Pull reports and data exports from ERP for analysis
- Make sure customer-tagged entries are in place so that customer profitablity reporting actually works.
What good performance looks like
- Books closed and month-end report delivered on time
- Zero late tax filngs and zero avoidable penalties.
- Bank and distributor reconciliations done monthly with no unexplained gaps.
- Import shipments costed correctly, so iventory and margins can be trusted.
- The Director can geta clear answer to "how are we doing" from reliable numbers at any time.
Sklls and experience required
Must have:
- A degree in accounting, finance or commerce (B.Com / BBA / ACCA / CA-nter / ICMA part-qualified or similar).
- At least 4–6 years of accounting experience, ideally with an importer, distributor or FMCG/trading business.
- Strong, practical knowledge of Pakistani tax: income tax, sales tax, withholding tax, FBR IIS filing, and the annual return process.
- Hands-on experience running accounts on an ERP or accounting software
- Good Excel skill (formulas, pivot tables, clean reporting).
- Understanding of import accounting and landed cost.
- Accurate, organised, and able to meet deadlinesnes without being chased.
- Honest and trustorthy with money and confidential information.
Nice to have:
- Experience with distributor settlements and trade-scheme accounting.
- Experience preparing management reports and budgets, not just bookkeeping.
- Familiarity with WeBOC / Pkistan Single Window and bank LC/import processes.
Key Responsibilities
The Senior Accountant will manage day-to-day accounting, financial reporting, and month-end processes while ensuring accurate tax and legal compliance. They are responsible for overseeing bookkeeping, import cost accounting, payroll, and providing actionable financial data to the Director.
Requirements and Skills
Candidates must hold a degree in accounting, finance, or commerce with 4–6 years of relevant experience in a trading or FMCG environment. Strong practical knowledge of Pakistani tax laws, ERP systems, and proficiency in Excel are essential requirements for this role.
