One of our UK based clients in Islamabad is looking to hire an experienced DevOps Engineer to take ownership of our servers, deployments and infrastructure as we move from internal tools to a reliable SaaS product.
 
Today, our developers manage servers alongside their coding work. The successful candidate will take over this responsibility, build and maintain separate test and production environments, and prepare our infrastructure for customers who expect the product to be fast, secure and always available.
 
The successful candidate will be responsible for: 
- Setting up and maintaining separate test and production environments.
- Building and managing CI/CD pipelines to automate releases and reduce manual errors.
- Managing Linux servers, cloud infrastructure and containerised applications.
- Securing servers, managing access and permissions, and applying updates and patches.
- Setting up regular backups and ensuring data can be restored quickly when required.
- Implementing monitoring, logging and alerts to identify issues before they affect users.
- Planning and improving infrastructure so it can scale as the SaaS product grows.
- Setting up and maintaining the tools and environments used by developers.
- Supporting reliable, repeatable and secure deployment processes.
- Documenting infrastructure, operational processes, deployment procedures and recovery steps.
- Working independently while explaining technical issues clearly to the wider team.
 
The ideal candidate should have experience in: 
- DevOps or system administration, with at least three years of hands-on experience.
- Managing Linux servers in development, test or production environments.
- Docker and containerised applications.
- Building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI or Jenkins.
- Cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure.
- Server security, access control, permissions and patch management.
- Backup strategies, data recovery and operational resilience.
- Monitoring, logging and alerting systems.
- Scripting with Bash or Python.
- Supporting developers with reliable tools, environments and deployment workflows.
- Working independently and communicating technical issues clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
 
Nice to have: 
- Experience supporting a SaaS product with live customers.
- Kubernetes or another container orchestration platform.
- Infrastructure as code using tools such as Terraform or Ansible.
- Database administration and backup experience with PostgreSQL, MySQL or similar systems.
- AWS or Azure certifications.
 
The role will initially involve reviewing our existing infrastructure, understanding current development and deployment processes, identifying risks and gaps, and producing a recommended plan for improving the reliability, security and scalability of our environments.
 
Ultimately, we want to establish a dependable infrastructure foundation that allows the team to release changes safely, recover quickly from incidents and support the growth of the SaaS product without unnecessary operational overhead.
