About the role

We are looking for a Software Engineer II who can own features end-to-end, contribute to architecture decisions, mentor junior engineers, and deliver high-quality, scalable solutions.

This role is a strong fit for engineers who are building fluency with agentic development tools, or are ready to start. Unlike our Senior Software Engineer role, deep agentic tool fluency is not a hard requirement here — this is where engineers ramp into it, with support from the team.

What you will do

• Own and deliver features — from technical design through implementation, testing, deployment, and support
• Contribute to architecture — participate in technical design discussions and help evolve system architecture for scalability and performance
• Write clean, scalable code — develop high-quality, maintainable, testable code using modern development practices
• Collaborate effectively — work closely with designers, product managers, and engineers (local and remote) to deliver value to users
• Support and mentor — share knowledge with junior team members, conduct code reviews, and help raise the team's engineering bar
• Continuously improve — proactively identify areas to improve in the codebase, architecture, or engineering process, and help drive those changes

Required engineering skills

• 3-5 years of experience as a software engineer in a product-based environment
• BS/MS in Computer Science or a related technical field
• Proficiency in full-stack web development, with a solid understanding of backend systems, APIs, and database design (SQL/NoSQL)
• Experience with scalable, distributed systems and handling increased traffic or data loads
• Solid understanding of cloud technologies, preferably AWS (EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, etc.)
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, and modern DevOps practices
• Experience writing automated tests, with a strong focus on code quality, performance, and maintainability
• Strong technical judgment — you understand trade-offs in system design and code quality, and make thoughtful decisions accordingly
• Clear communication — you collaborate well with peers and stakeholders and can explain technical concepts confidently

Growing into agentic development

We don't require deep agentic tool fluency at this level, but we're looking for engineers who are curious about it and ready to build that muscle on the job.

• Some exposure to agentic coding tools such as Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, or comparable tools, even if informal
• Willingness to use these tools for exploring codebases, planning changes, implementing features, and debugging — with growing independence over time
• Openness to feedback on evaluating AI-generated code critically, rather than accepting it at face value
• A learning attitude — committed to growing your skills and staying current with industry trends and tools

Preferred skills

• Experience with containerized environments (Docker/Kubernetes)
• Experience in system design, architecture patterns, and mentoring junior engineers
• Experience with TypeScript, Node.js, React, Next.js, Python, or similar stacks

How we hire

Our interview process includes a pairing session, a system design conversation, and a final culture fit interview. At this level, the pairing session is where we get a feel for your comfort with agentic tools and your appetite to grow into them - we're not expecting senior-level fluency, just curiosity and sound judgment about what the tools produce. We do not require experience with one specific vendor.
